Rochester property owners have until Monday, Aug. 31, to pay 2026 summer taxes without penalty at City Hall, 400 Sixth Street.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 1, the city will add a 4% late fee to any unpaid balance, plus interest of one-half of 1% per month until the bill is settled.

Postmarks do not count.

Payment must physically arrive at City Hall or the after-hours drop box by the end of business Monday, according to the city's notice posted Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The drop box sits in the parking lot on the west side of City Hall. Residents paying by check should write their Parcel ID and phone number on the check.

The city's 2023 newsletter lists a 24-hour payment phone line at (888) 600-3773, where callers enter their 10-digit parcel ID beginning with 15. Residents should confirm current payment options with the Treasurer's Office at (248) 733-3700.

Rochester Hills' summer tax deadline falls on Sept. 14, with 1% interest beginning Sept. 15, according to the Rochester Hills Treasurer's Office.

If Rochester taxes remain unpaid past the city's collection window, the balance transfers to the Oakland County Treasurer's Office in Pontiac, where additional penalties accrue. Under Michigan law, delinquent property taxes can trigger a multi-year foreclosure process that leads to loss of the property.

Residents with questions can reach the Rochester Treasurer's Office at (248) 733-3700 on weekdays.
