The Rochester Symphony Orchestra opens its indoor fall season with a concert pairing French orchestral works with Latin American guitar music at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Friday, Oct. 2.

Tickets cost $30 for adults and $5 for students.

The program, titled "Latin Hearts, European Souls," features works by French composers Georges Bizet, Maurice Ravel and Emmanuel Chabrier alongside pieces by Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo and Argentinian composer Alberto Ginastera. Maestro Zeljko Milicevic, the RSO's music director and conductor since 2014, leads the program.

The evening's featured soloist is An Tran, a Vietnamese classical guitarist based in the U.S. and a professor at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts who also teaches at the University of Illinois Chicago and Northern Illinois University. The Boston Globe described Tran in a March 2022 review as playing with "subtle, graceful virtuosity," drawing "a low pentatonic melody with his thumb while the other four fingers murmured over the higher strings."

Beyond the concert hall, Tran co-founded Chicago Artopia, a nonprofit dedicated to making the arts accessible to underserved communities on Chicago's Southwest side, and in 2024 launched an annual ten-day international guitar workshop in Vietnam.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. and runs until approximately 10 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 620 Romeo Road, Rochester. Tickets are available at RochesterSymphony.com, by phone at 248-651-4181, or at the door.

Season tickets covering all four 2026-2027 performances are also available through the RSO website or box office.

What's next for the RSO: The orchestra's second concert of the season, "Christmas Around the World," is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 11, at 8 p.m.
