Free backpacks and school supplies will be handed out Aug. 20 in Rochester Hills, four days before classes start, as one of three community events coming to the Greater Rochester area in August and September.

Packed for Success: free backpacks and supplies Aug. 20

WellBridge of Rochester Hills, a post-acute rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility at 252 Meadowfield Drive, will host a free backpack and school supply giveaway from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.

Children must be present to receive a backpack. Supplies go until they run out.

The afternoon also includes hot dogs and chips, inflatables, face painting, games and a petting zoo, according to the Oakland County community calendar. Rochester Community Schools opens Monday, Aug. 24.

OLHSA Golf Fore Change: Aug. 28 in Oakland Township

The Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency is hosting its Golf Fore Change fundraiser at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Westwynd Golf Course, 4161 Adams Road, Oakland Township.

The day includes 18 holes with a cart, breakfast, lunch, dinner, plus contests and raffles. Cost is $150 per person or $600 per foursome. Proceeds support OLHSA's emergency assistance programs, which provide housing, utility, homelessness and water assistance to Oakland and Livingston County families in crisis.

OLHSA, a Community Action Agency founded in 1964, serves residents across both counties. Registration and sponsorship details are available at olhsa.org/fore.

Harmony in the Hills: Duo Clarion on Sept. 25

The Harmony in the Hills Concert Series brings internationally acclaimed Duo Clarion to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 620 Romeo Street, Rochester, at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25. The concert runs approximately 75 minutes. Admission is free, with donations appreciated.

Clarinetist Chad Burrow and pianist Amy I-Lin Cheng formed Duo Clarion in 1999 at Yale University. Both are professors at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, and they perform across the United States, Europe and East Asia, according to WRCJ 90.9 FM.

The New York Times called Burrow's Carnegie Hall performance of Poulenc's Clarinet Sonata a "bright and genial account," according to his Brightmusic ensemble profile.
