Oakland University women's basketball hired Sean Mullen as its video coordinator on Wednesday, July 22, bringing Big 12 staff experience and a Big Ten background to head coach Keisha Newell's program ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Mullen, a Plymouth, Mich., native, spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant with Baylor's women's basketball program. The Bears made the NCAA Tournament in both of those seasons and reached the Big 12 Championship Game during his tenure. He worked closely with four All-Big 12 selections.

At Baylor, Mullen focused on defensive analytics, scouting preparation, recruiting support and player development. He created video packages for prospective recruits and helped assemble scouting reports, according to the university's announcement.

"I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Newell's staff and to be a part of the Oakland women's basketball program," Mullen said in the announcement. "I'm excited to get back home and get to work while contributing to Coach's vision for this program!"

The "get back home" part is literal. Mullen grew up in Plymouth, about 45 minutes from Oakland's Rochester campus.

Before Baylor, Mullen served as a scout team member with Michigan State women's basketball, where he supported daily practice operations under head coaches Suzy Merchant and Robin Fralick. He earned his bachelor's degree in supply chain management from Michigan State before moving to Waco for his graduate work and coaching career.

Newell praised Mullen's background and character, saying he brings "a great basketball mind, a strong work ethic, and a genuine passion for helping others grow." She added that she is most excited about the person joining the program, calling him someone who will positively impact players every day.

Oakland has not yet announced its 2026-27 schedule.
