Rochester Hills residents can now donate their Recyclebank points directly to the public library, funding new recycling bins on every floor of the building.

Rochester Hills Public Library announced Aug. 11 that it has joined Recyclebank's Green Schools Program through a partnership with the City of Rochester Hills. The program converts donated points into cash grants for participating organizations.

Mary Davis, head of outreach services and chair of the library's Green Committee, wrote in the announcement that the partnership is part of RHPL's strategic goal to offer sustainability programs. The library plans to spend its grant on U.S.-made recycling bins constructed from recycled materials. One bin will go on each floor.

"The next time you log in to your Recyclebank account, find RHPL to donate your points to help us as we strive to become greener and more sustainable," Davis wrote.

Residents who already have Recyclebank accounts through the city's curbside recycling program can log in and select RHPL as their recipient. For every 1,000 points contributed, $4 goes to the chosen project, according to the City of Rochester Hills. The deadline to donate is Friday, Oct. 30.

The library is one of several local organizations eligible for Recyclebank grants. Rochester Community Schools also participates in the broader Michigan Green Schools initiative, which is housed within the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. During the 2025-2026 school year, 17 Rochester Community Schools buildings earned the Evergreen designation, the program's highest level, requiring 20 or more environmental activities, according to Oakland County's Green Schools program data.

Davis did not specify a total dollar goal for the bin project or a timeline for installation.
