A 65-year-old Rochester Hills man was killed and two women were critically injured in a head-on collision on Rochester Road in Oakland Township early Friday, July 24.
The crash happened around 5:45 a.m. near Buell Road, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. The man was driving a 2022 Ford Escape northbound when the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 2025 Subaru Outback.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Subaru's driver, a 49-year-old Imlay City woman, and her passenger, a 56-year-old Almont woman, were both transported in critical condition to Henry Ford Rochester Hospital in Rochester Hills. Their conditions had not been updated as of Friday afternoon.
What investigators know
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the Rochester Hills man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Whether the two women in the Subaru were belted had not been determined.
Investigators said they do not believe a medical emergency caused the Ford Escape to cross the centerline, but the reason remains unclear. The man's cause of death is pending autopsy results from the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office.
The sheriff's office has not released the man's name, citing the need to notify next of kin.
The crash remains under active investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. No timeline for completion has been announced.
