Republican Mike Rogers and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed will debate live on WXYZ-TV on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The broadcast from the station's Detroit studios will air statewide.

Both candidates appear on the Oakland County ballot for the Nov. 3 general election. They are competing to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Gary Peters of Bloomfield Township.

Veteran journalist Chuck Stokes will moderate, The Detroit News reported. No start time or format details have been released.

The Oct. 21 matchup is the second confirmed debate between the two, according to the Detroit Free Press. They previously agreed to an Oct. 8 debate on WOOD-TV 8 in Grand Rapids, moderated by Rick Albin. A third debate, proposed by Fox 2 for Sept. 15, remains uncertain. El-Sayed has committed; Rogers has not.

Rogers is a former U.S. House member from White Lake Township who has President Donald Trump's endorsement. El-Sayed is a former Wayne County health official from Ann Arbor.

Rogers campaign Communications Director Alyssa Brouillet confirmed his participation in a Sept. 2 statement.

In-person absentee voting for the Nov. 3 election begins Thursday, Sept. 24.
