Stoney Creek High School will celebrate its most famous football alum Thursday night when it honors Eric Fisher, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, during a halftime ceremony at the Cougars' season opener against Eisenhower.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at Stoney Creek. The first 500 fans through the gate will receive a free commemorative Eric Fisher Night T-shirt.

Fisher, a Rochester native who graduated from Stoney Creek, was selected first overall by the Kansas City Chiefs, becoming the first Mid-American Conference player ever taken No. 1 in the draft. He played college ball at Central Michigan University, where he earned first-team All-American honors in 2012, according to his Wikipedia biography.

The offensive tackle went on to play 10 NFL seasons, starting 128 of his 132 career games. He spent eight years with the Chiefs before stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins. Fisher earned two Pro Bowl selections and won Super Bowl LIV with Kansas City, the franchise's first title in 50 years.

What makes Fisher's story resonate locally: he weighed just 225 pounds as a senior at Stoney Creek. Scouts overlooked him. He earned only All-State honorable mention and a two-star recruit rating from Rivals.com, considered undersized for an offensive tackle prospect.

Fisher was raised in Rochester by his mother, who overcame thyroid cancer while raising him and his sister as a single parent.

Todd Negoshian announced the event on the Stoney Creek athletics website Monday, Aug. 24, calling it a night to remember and urging fans to come out and celebrate one of the school's own.

The Cougars open their 2026 varsity football season with Thursday's game against Eisenhower at 7 p.m.
