Couples shopping for a wedding venue can walk the grounds of Meadow Brook Hall on Wednesday, Aug. 19, when the historic Oakland University estate opens for a Wedding Open House at 5 p.m.

Organizer Katie Higgins is welcoming visitors to explore the mansion and gardens at 350 Estate Drive in Rochester. Meadow Brook Hall calls itself "Michigan's most romantic wedding venue," according to its event listing.

The estate stays busy all week. On Sunday, Aug. 23, the Rock Garden hosts Yoga in the Garden starting at 9 a.m., listed on Oakland University's events calendar for Meadow Brook Hall.

Floral art returns in September

Meadow Brook Hall's annual Art in the Elements floral art tour opens Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m. and runs through Monday, Sept. 7. The limited-run exhibition features more than a dozen floral sculptures by professional floral artists, according to Meadow Brook Hall's website. A premiere night and guided tour follow Thursday, Sept. 3, at 6 p.m.

Kids and film buffs get their turn

Young performers have a shot at the stage Saturday, Aug. 29, when Meadow Brook Theatre holds non-union children's auditions for its annual production of A Christmas Carol. Children under 14 as of Oct. 27 can audition at 10 a.m. in the Meadow Brook Theatre Lobby, 378 Meadow Brook Rd., according to the theatre's auditions page. The company is Oakland University's resident theatre, led by artistic director Travis Walter and managing director Cheryl Marshall.

Film fans can mark Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 6:30 p.m. for the REEL Social Club gathering at Emagine Rochester Hills, 200 Barclay Circle.
