Early voting for the Aug. 4 primary closes Sunday, Aug. 2.

Two local sites remain open through the weekend for Rochester-area residents who haven't yet cast ballots.

Here's what you need to know.

Where to vote early

Rochester city residents: Rochester City Hall Council Chambers, 400 Sixth Street. Hours for the remaining days:

  • Friday, July 31: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 1: check rochestermi.org or call 248-733-3700 for posted hours
  • Sunday, Aug. 2: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Rochester Hills and Oakland Township residents: Rochester Hills Public Library, 500 Olde Towne Road. Check rochesterhills.org for daily hours.

Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown announced ahead of early voting's July 25 start that county-run sites now feature express lanes for voters bringing completed absentee ballots. "Feeding your absentee ballot through the tabulator yourself at your early voting site gives you the opportunity to correct any mistakes on the spot," Brown told MLive on July 23. "You've taken the time to fill out your ballot – make sure your vote counts."

Voters who miss the early voting window can still cast ballots on Election Day, Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at their assigned precinct. Absentee ballots must be returned to municipal clerks or secure drop boxes by 8 p.m. that day.

Three ballot questions at a glance

Oakland Schools enhancement millage (all Oakland County voters): A 6-year, 1.5-mill levy expected to raise $125.7 million in its first year. Funds would flow to each of the county's 28 school districts at roughly $700 per student. Rochester Community Schools board member Carol Beth Litkouhi criticized the proposal in a July email to Michigan Capitol Confidential, as we reported July 27, writing that "proponents need to explain why taxpayers should approve a new tax when they haven't laid out why it's needed."

Rochester Hills fire millage (Rochester Hills voters only): A charter amendment raising the authorized fire millage from 3.0 to 3.5 mills. Because Headlee rollbacks have cut the current rate to 2.7798 mills, the effective increase is about 0.72 mills. The city estimates $5 million in new revenue in 2027, funding 12 firefighter/paramedics, an ambulance and a fire engine. The fire department logged more than 9,200 emergency runs in 2025, up 39% over the past decade. A home with $200,000 in taxable value would pay about $144 more per year.

Pathway millage renewal (Rochester Hills voters only): Renews the existing 0.1715-mill pathway levy for 10 more years with no rate increase. The millage funds the city's 100-plus miles of pathways, including the Clinton River Trail and Paint Creek Trail. Estimated first-year revenue: $864,920. Cost to a $200,000-taxable-value home: about $34.30 per year, unchanged.
