Rochester Hills City Council approved a three-year renewal for Flock license plate reader technology in a 7-0 vote on Monday, Oct. 26.
The authorization with Atlanta-based Flock Group covers public safety technology for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office at a cost not to exceed $183,000 over three years, according to the city’s meeting synopsis.
Council Member Marvie Neubauer made the motion with an amendment requiring quarterly reports to the council. The city’s Public Safety and Infrastructure Technical Review Committee must now report on public safety technology within the city, according to the synopsis.
Council Member David J. Blair seconded the motion.
All seven members voted in favor: Blair, Jason Carlock, Theresa Mungioli, Neubauer, Bradley Limberg, Diana Mannino and Mark Skelcy. The meeting began at 7 p.m. at 1000 Rochester Hills Drive.
Privacy concerns aired before vote
Residents raised concerns about privacy and data control before the vote, The Oakland Press reported. Sheriff’s Capt. Paul Workman told council that searches require a documented investigative purpose and are logged for auditing, the newspaper reported.
The next Rochester Hills City Council regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at 1000 Rochester Hills Drive.
