Livernois Road in Rochester Hills will close for a full weekend starting Friday, Sept. 25. The Road Commission for Oakland County rescheduled the bridge closure over the Clinton River after weather forced a postponement.

The RCOC announced the Livernois Road bridge, just south of Avon Road, will shut down at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 and reopen at 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28. The stretch carries about 30,800 vehicles a day.

The closure was originally set for the weekend of Sept. 18 through Sept. 21 but was called off because of weather. The RCOC posted the cancellation on its @oaklandroads account on Thursday, Sept. 17, saying new dates would follow.

Detour and access

Through traffic will be routed along Avon Road to Crooks Road to Hamlin Road and back to Livernois Road. Homes and businesses north and south of the bridge will remain accessible during the closure.

Part of a $1.07 million project

The weekend shutdown is part of a broader preventive maintenance project the RCOC is funding at $1.07 million. Contractor C.A. Hull Company started work on Aug. 24. The scope includes bridge deck and joint repairs, concrete approach pavement repairs, sidewalk repairs, an epoxy overlay and new pavement markings.

The overall project is expected to wrap up in early October, weather permitting. A similar weekend closure of the nearby Avon Road bridge over the Clinton River, just east of Livernois Road, took place Sept. 11 through Sept. 14 and has been completed.

The City of Rochester Hills, in a notice about the original closure dates, said it appreciates residents' patience with the disruptions.
