Oakland University volleyball opens Horizon League play Friday, Sept. 25, on the road at Green Bay, taking on a Phoenix squad riding a five-match winning streak.

Green Bay junior Diane Pichelman earned Horizon League Player of the Week honors after averaging 10.0 kills per match with a .655 attacking percentage, WTAQ reported. First serve Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+, with the series continuing Saturday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m. CT (3 p.m. ET), per WTAQ.

The Golden Grizzlies enter the series at 5-7 after splitting their home Oakland Invitational last weekend at the OU Credit Union O'rena.

Oakland beat Marist 3-2 on Friday, Sept. 18, in a five-set thriller, according to Oakland Athletics, before falling to Illinois State 3-0 on Sept. 20.

Freshman outside hitter Liv Hosford powered the Marist win with 18 kills and 19 digs for a double-double. It was Oakland's first five-set victory of the season and the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Oakland trailed 8-7 in the fifth set before scoring five of the next six points to seize a 12-9 lead. Middle blocker Lillian Frias delivered the final kill for match point and then recorded the match-ending block to close out the 15-11 fifth set.

Molly Reck added 14 kills and 19 digs while hitting .361. Setter Delaney Stern ran the offense with 52 assists, nine digs and three service aces. Frias finished with 11 kills, a .333 hitting percentage and a team-high six blocks.

The Golden Grizzlies hit .262 as a team and recorded a season-high 13 blocks while holding Marist to .165. Set scores: 25-17, 17-25, 25-12, 23-25, 15-11.

The Sept. 20 match against Illinois State was tighter than the 3-0 scoreline suggested. Oakland led 22-19 in the third set before the Redbirds, who entered the weekend 7-2, scored five straight points to reach match point and complete the sweep (25-22, 25-22, 25-23), according to Oakland Athletics. Illinois State leads the all-time series 5-0 after the win.

Reck led Oakland with 10 kills, two aces and 10 digs. Stern posted 27 assists and 11 digs for a double-double. Frias added seven kills and a team-high four blocks.
