Rochester's Aiden Kelly stepped to the ice first in the championship shootout and buried the goal that set Team USA on its way to gold at the 2026 Under-17 Four Nations Tournament in Chomutov, Czechia, on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Kelly, a 6-foot, 170-pound center who skated last season with the Detroit Little Caesars 15U, scored on the opening shootout attempt as the U.S. Under-17 Men's Select Team erased a 3-0 first-period deficit to beat host Czechia 5-4 in the title game at Rocknet Arena. Dylan Delgado and Levi Ellingsen converted after Kelly, and goaltender Chase Pastor stopped all three Czech attempts to seal the 10th all-time U.S. championship at the event.

The win capped an undefeated tournament for Team USA: a 4-3 regulation win over Czechia on Aug. 15, a 6-5 shootout win over Switzerland on Aug. 16, a 7-6 overtime win over Slovakia on Tuesday, Aug. 18, and the championship comeback on Wednesday.

Kelly made his mark in every round. In the opener, he ripped a one-timer past Czech netminder Matyas Novotny from the left faceoff circle at 14:47 of the second period. Against Switzerland, he scored shorthanded, then added two shootout goals and earned U.S. Player of the Game honors, according to USA Hockey's tournament coverage.

"This team is resilient; they stuck with it the whole game," head coach Guy Gosselin said after Wednesday's championship. "They dealt with the adversity, never gave up and came through in the end."

Pastor finished the final with 35 saves as Czechia outshot the Americans 39-37, but Team USA blocked 12 shots to Czechia's two, according to Sports Illustrated's recap.

Kelly's international breakout follows a rapid rise through Michigan hockey. The Brantford Bulldogs selected him 20th overall in the first round of the 2026 OHL Priority Selection and signed him to an OHL Scholarship & Development Agreement in June. In his final Little Caesars 15U season, Kelly posted 14 goals and 21 assists in 20 league games, then exploded for six goals and three assists in three playoff contests. The year before, skating at the 14U level, he recorded 74 goals and 90 assists for 164 points across 80 games.

Kelly models his game after Stanley Cup champion Matthew Tkachuk, according to the Bulldogs' signing announcement. Bulldogs assistant GM Mike Galati called Kelly the team's top-rated player entering the draft. "He scores and brings offense in every way," Galati said in June when announcing the signing. "His compete level is through the roof."

The Brantford Bulldogs announced on the same day as the championship that Kelly will be the first player in franchise history to wear No. 66. He is expected to join the team in Brantford, Ontario, when the OHL season opens in September.
