Stoney Creek's varsity girls golf team beat Rochester High School 202-216 on Monday, Aug. 24, at Great Oaks Country Club in Rochester Hills, giving the Cougars their second confirmed OAA League victory of the season.

Megan Sypniewski paced the field with a 48 over nine holes, earning medalist honors. Sophie Ruddy followed one stroke back at 49 for second place overall, and Anabele Jakubowski carded a 51 to tie for third. Elise Lommen rounded out Stoney Creek's scoring quartet with a 54, good for sixth place.

The Cougars' four counting scores totaled 202, beating Rochester by 14 strokes on the Falcons' home course.

The win came five days after Stoney Creek opened OAA League play with a 187-220 victory over Bloomfield Hills on Aug. 19. Ruddy led the Cougars in that match with a 45, followed by Jakubowski at 46, Sypniewski at 47 and Magaly Morales at 49.

Between those two league wins, Stoney Creek competed in the Adams Invitational on Aug. 20 at Twin Lakes Golf Club. The Cougars placed 10th out of 19 teams in the 18-hole event with a team score of 378.

Sypniewski led Stoney Creek at the invitational with an 89. Nikhita Chanchali followed with a 91, Morales shot 98 and Ruddy finished with a 100.

Sypniewski has posted counting scores in all three events, leading Stoney Creek at the Adams Invitational and in the Aug. 24 win over Rochester. Ruddy led the Cougars in their Aug. 19 victory over Bloomfield Hills.

Stoney Creek's next OAA League match date has not been confirmed. The Cougars have two confirmed league wins so far this season.
