Rochester Hills Public Library's (RHPL) Battle of the Books returns for area fifth graders this fall. The annual reading competition ends with a 50-question trivia contest at Hart Middle School in March 2027.

RHPL youth librarians are visiting local elementary schools in October to give fifth graders a sneak peek of three titles. The full list of 12 books won't be revealed until the official kickoff, a Zoom meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, according to the library's program page.

Students form their own teams and spend five months reading the 12 titles chosen by RHPL youth librarians. The competition takes place at Hart Middle School, 6500 Sheldon Rd. in Rochester Hills. An exact date in March 2027 has not been announced.

Wendy Lehman, RHPL's head of youth services, authored the library's program page. A parent guide, coach tips and a recording of the kickoff meeting are all listed on the library's site as "coming soon."
