Amanda Ileana Hernandez was sentenced Wednesday, Aug. 12, to 57 months to 20 years in prison for helping plan the 2024 murder and robbery of Rochester Hills businessman Hussein "Sam" Murray.

Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Nanci Grant handed down the sentence after Hernandez, 34, of Lincoln Park, pleaded no contest in July to conspiracy to commit first-degree home invasion, accessory after the fact to a felony and conspiracy to commit false impersonation of a utility worker. The concurrent sentences also include 1 to 5 years and 1 to 2 years on the lesser charges. Hernandez received credit for 197 days already served in jail.

"You were not innocent, you were all-in," Judge Grant told Hernandez at the hearing, according to FOX 2 Detroit.

Hernandez is the last of three defendants sentenced in the case. On Oct. 11, 2024, her husband Carlos Hernandez, 39, and Joshua Zuazo, 41, posed as DTE Energy workers investigating a gas leak to gain entry to Murray's home on Newcastle Drive. Murray, 72, took the men to his basement, where they fatally beat him while his wife Linda Murray was in the kitchen, unaware of the attack.

Carlos Hernandez and Zuazo then went upstairs, restrained Linda Murray with duct tape and robbed the home. She freed herself and called 911.

The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office said Amanda Hernandez played an active role in planning and covering up the crime. The Oakland Press reported that investigators tied her to the scheme through dozens of text messages showing she helped prepare for the home invasion, hoping to use stolen money to buy a house.

Hernandez was charged in January after the investigation uncovered her involvement. She entered her no-contest plea in July 2026, as we reported July 27.

Murray owned Gold & Glitter Jewelry and Hamtramck Pawn on Joseph Campau Street in Hamtramck.

Both Carlos Hernandez and Zuazo are serving life in prison without the possibility of parole for first-degree felony murder. No further court proceedings are expected in the case.
