Oakland University's women's soccer team lost 1-0 at Milwaukee on Thursday, Sept. 24, dropping to 0-2 in Horizon League play.

Emily Petring scored the match's lone goal in the 65th minute for her third of the season, according to Milwaukee's game recap. The goal broke a scoreless deadlock at Engelmann Stadium after Oakland goalkeeper Norah Schmidt had kept the Panthers off the board through the first half with three saves.

Schmidt finished with five saves over 90 minutes, according to Oakland's game recap. Milwaukee outshot Oakland 17-5 overall and 6-0 in shots on goal.

The Golden Grizzlies managed just five total shots. Ella Shapiro recorded Oakland's first attempt in the 10th minute. Corinne Jenkins and Lilly Boebel created second-half looks at 46:28 and 53:02, and Bella Haynes put a shot wide left at 71:17 as Oakland searched for an equalizer.

Boebel led the team with two shots. She came off the bench.

Milwaukee head coach Kevin Boyd credited Schmidt's performance after the match. "I don't know how it didn't go in, to be honest, but credit to the keeper on the save she made … I thought the keeper had a very good night all the way around; she was quite good," Boyd said.

The loss extended Milwaukee's unbeaten streak in regular-season Horizon League play to 41 matches. The Panthers (4-4-2, 2-0-0 Horizon League) have not lost to Oakland in 20 consecutive meetings, a run dating to 2003. Oakland (1-6-1, 0-2-0) has now lost three straight, including a 2-0 defeat to Cleveland State on Saturday, Sept. 19.

As we reported Sept. 24, this Wisconsin trip was always a two-game test. The second leg comes at Green Bay, which entered the week at 6-0-2. The Phoenix were one of just 18 unbeaten Division I programs in the country, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, and rank fourth nationally in goals allowed per match at 0.25.

Oakland does own a historical edge against Green Bay, winning eight of 15 all-time meetings and not losing to the Phoenix since 2017, according to Oakland's pre-trip preview.

The Golden Grizzlies visit Green Bay on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
