Five high school students won a contested election in May to lead the Rochester Hills Public Library's Teen Advisory Board for the 2026-2027 school year, and now the board is accepting applications from local teens who want to join them.

More than 20 students attended the final TAB meeting of the school year, where 13 candidates gave speeches before a close vote determined the new officers, according to a post by Teen Services Librarian Gigi Broyles on the library's website.

The vote was close.

The winners: Brennan as president, Elis as vice president, Zoe as engagement lead, Dev as marketing lead, and Lukne as programming lead.

Several officers share a musical streak. Brennan plays electric guitar and bass in his school's marching band. Elis composes music and plays piano. Zoe plays bass guitar.

"One goal I have for the Teen Advisory Board is to hold more events that assist local teens with their academic goals such as tutoring sessions, SAT/ACT prep, and inviting speakers to educate teens on college admissions and career opportunities," Brennan said in the library's announcement.

Programming Lead Lukne, who has visited 25 U.S. states, echoed that academic focus, saying she wants to expand the board's Tutoring with Teens program.

TAB members meet monthly and advise the Teen Services Librarian on programs, collections, and services for teenagers. Due to a substantial increase in interest, membership shifted from open enrollment to an application process.

How to apply: The application for the 2026-2027 school year opens Saturday, August 1, and closes Monday, August 31. Applicants must be high school students ages 14-18 with a demonstrated love for the library. The library is at 500 Olde Towne Rd., Rochester.
