Rochester-area residents looking for work will have access to more than 80 employers under one roof when Oakland University hosts the inaugural Southeast Michigan Job Fair on Thursday, August 13.
The free event, organized by U.S. Rep. Lisa McClain in partnership with Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works, runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at OU's Oakland Center, 312 Meadow Brook Rd. in Rochester. No tickets or fees are required, and parking is free.
Who's hiring
The employer list spans healthcare, manufacturing, construction, government, education, finance, and skilled trades. Confirmed participants include General Motors, Toyota Motor North America R&D, Henry Ford Health, McLaren Health Care, the FBI, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the IRS, United Wholesale Mortgage, Lowe's, and the Michigan Army National Guard, according to McClain's official event page.
Skilled-trades employers such as Lee Contracting and the Southeast Michigan Construction Academy are also registered, along with public-sector offices including Oakland County Government and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Employers are hiring for roles in skilled trades, healthcare, federal law enforcement, finance, and transportation, among other fields.
What job seekers should know
Registration is recommended but not required. Walk-ins are welcome.
McClain's office advises attendees to bring multiple copies of their resume, a photo ID, and a notepad. Professional attire is recommended. Some employers may conduct on-the-spot interviews, while others will collect resumes and follow up afterward.
How to register
Job seekers can sign up through a registration form linked at mcclain.house.gov/jobfair. Businesses that missed the July 23 employer registration deadline can contact Karen Helfrick at Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works ([email protected]) to join a waitlist. The official page notes the employer roster may still grow as additional organizations are added.
McClain's office described the event as a "first-of-its-kind" gathering aimed at connecting job seekers with local employers across Southeast Michigan.
