Families who missed Rochester Community Schools' Chromebook deployment on Wednesday, Aug. 5, and Thursday, Aug. 6, have until Aug. 21 to schedule an appointment and pick up their child's device before the first day of school.

The district's tech team distributed 1,700 Chromebooks during the two-day event at the RCS Administration Building on Dequindre Road, the district said in a post on X on Friday, Aug. 7. The devices went to all students new to RCS in grades 1-12 and all students entering sixth or ninth grade.

Anyone who couldn't make the deployment can book a makeup appointment through the district's online scheduling form. Slots are available Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a midday break from noon to 2 p.m. Appointments are in five-minute increments at the Administration Building, 52585 Dequindre Road.

The form closes Aug. 21. School starts Monday, Aug. 24, a half day for all students.

A Chromebook is required for every student in the affected groups. Families who already have a district-issued device from a prior year do not need a new one; the deployment targets students transitioning to middle school, high school or enrolling in RCS for the first time.

As we reported July 29, the district announced the pickup event nearly a month before the school year begins. The original deployment ran from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.

Teachers return to buildings Tuesday, Aug. 18. The appointment window closes Friday, Aug. 21.
