The Rochester Community Schools Foundation's annual Hometown Hustle 5K has raised more than $650,000 for district students over two decades.
The race Saturday, Sept. 19, marks the event's 21st year.
The 5K and one-mile color run take place at Chief Financial Credit Union Headquarters, 200 Diversion St. in Rochester Hills. The opening ceremony starts at 8 a.m., the color run follows at 8:10 a.m. and the 5K begins at 8:30 a.m.
"Over the past 20 years, the Hometown Hustle has contributed more than $650,000 to support academics, arts and athletics for Rochester Community Schools students," Joann Beydoun, the foundation's director, told The Oakland Press.
The 5K route loops through Downtown Rochester, Rochester Municipal Park and the Paint Creek and Clinton River trails. The Paint Creek Trailways Commission has previously approved the event's use of the trail, including at its June 17, 2025, meeting.
The 20th anniversary race in September 2025 drew more than 1,400 participants, according to the Rochester Community Schools. The foundation's website says the event typically attracts more than 1,100 runners, walkers and spectators.
Registration costs $30 for adults and $20 for participants under 18. One registration covers both the color run and the 5K. Online sign-ups remain open through Saturday morning at rcs-foundation.org/hometown-hustle. Runners and walkers receive a T-shirt, bib and medal. The event goes on rain or shine.
Schools have a stake in turnout, too. Rochester Community Schools said on X that the elementary, middle and high school with the most participants will each receive an additional $1,000 to benefit students. Participants can select their school during registration.
Proceeds fund scholarships, school grants and enrichment programs across the district. In recent years, the foundation has helped establish a districtwide orchestra program and provided wellness training resources, according to The Oakland Press.
The Rochester Education Association is among the event's sponsors. Chief Financial Credit Union is the presenting sponsor.
