Rochester Community Schools recognized 70 students as National Merit honorees, the district announced Oct. 29.
The group includes 24 National Merit Semifinalists and 46 Commended Students, according to a district post on X.
The district congratulated the students and thanked the educators who helped them succeed.
Students enter the competition through the PSAT/NMSQT, the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Semifinalists represent less than 1% of U.S. high school graduating seniors, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Semifinalists must meet additional requirements to advance to finalist standing and compete for National Merit Scholarships. Commended Students receive academic recognition but do not continue in that scholarship competition.
